![]() Hyrule was formed by three goddesses Din, Farore, and Nayru. Many of its areas have recurring appearances throughout the series, like Hyrule Castle, the Lost Woods, Kakariko Village, Death Mountain and Lake Hylia. I don't even hate SS, there's some brillant stuff in it.īut it probably doesn't warrant more than 1 playthrough. The Kingdom of Hyrule, a medieval-based fantasy land, is the main setting of the series, which first appeared in The Legend of Zelda. SS is probably responsible for how much more I love BotW really. You can even beat him without understanding the main mechanic of the fight (I sure did the 1st time I played) but it's REALLY HARD. It's geniunely the best last boss I played in a EAD game, the perfect conclusion to the game and even challenging. The end boss was glorious though, can't knock that. Think again, you're just redoing the old dungeon once in the lamest attempt at padding this side of the fucking tadtones of the same goddamn game! You think it would be something like Metroid where going deeper in an already explored place leads to new challenge and even a new part of the world? I'll gloss over the combat system because you explained that well. ![]() We got something that minimized overworld worse than the freaking DS games!īoss Battles? Thank Monster Hunter for the shitty Imprisonned you had to fight countless times! We all thought that meant something like Twilight Princess but with a flying bird allowing you to go wherever you wanted. You get to fly over Hyrule, Boss Battles that took cues from Monster Hunter, crafting system (that part is still awesome and probably the best part of the whole package even), combat that uses the best part of what WiiSportsResort hinted at (seriously the fencing minigame is top 3 tier from anything coming from 2009), revisiting old dungeons for deeper exploration. No wonder BOTW was a complete 180 from everything SS did.Ĭlick to shrink.I still remember the 1st thing we got from the game was basically Link jumping off a cliff to fly and the prerelease pitch was all kinds of awesome! It feels like just the first pass of something that didn't have a chance to get fleshed out. That is the optimal thing to do for the rest of the game.īesides Paper Mario Color Splash, Skyward Sword has the most baffling combat system i have ever seen in a game. Once you do this successfully once there is no reason to do anything else. ![]() Why? Well the parry system is so overly generous with the amount of frames it gives you to pull it off successfully that you can pretty much stun every enemy and afterwards just waggle until they die. Oh and despite the game making you believe otherwise you can pretty much waggle your way to victory every single time. Almost like padding, which btw the game is 80% padding. So it just came across as repetitive and overly tedious. The different colored enemies don't matter really because it all plays the same and the game has a way bigger focus on combat than other 3D Zelda games before this one but it did nothing more to make it interesting. The game might as well have one enemy type. Just a simple "simon says puzzle" that is repeated thousands of times throughout the game. No matter where you hit an enemy it will always do the exact same amount of damage. This isn't like in MG Rising where the game rewards you from doing a ZanDatsu on a specific body part, it isn't anything like that. Pretty simple and it works but it never really evolves. They block from one side and you swing from the opposite direction. Well for starters how about that every single enemy encounter plays out the same. Keep in mind this single feature was supposed to make this Zelda game stand above the rest and prove to everyone that the motion controls are the future and the Wii remote was going to live up to its fullest potential by offering things you could never have with a regular controller. kind of bad.īut the main selling point of the game, the promise of one to one sword fighting is implemented in such a mediocre way that i have a really hard time coming to terms with it. I guess the entire game was a wasted opportunity since it is.
